As we continue our extensive in-depth Madrid coverage…

let me bring you to a little piece of ancient Egypt in Spain!

This ancient Egyptian architecture is the Temple of Debod, dedicated to the goddess Isis. It was built in 2 BC (over 2,000 years ago!) and rebuilt in Madrid.

Nearby, we happened upon a beautiful view of the city

But we were on our way to an even more impressive panoramic view of Madrid.

Cable cars!

These were definitely a welcome respite from our miles upon miles of walking, and the view was pretty spectacular!

This monument was right by our hostel

Really pretty–no idea what it’s for

As previously mentioned, Amy was a former inhabitant of Madrid last semester and fell in love with the city. She used my visit to relive her semester by pretty much planning my itinerary for me :) It was awesome to have an expert source on the best sights to see beyond what my guidebook told me. Besides the recommendations on a sick cave bar (Chapandez) and 7 story club (Kapital), Amy gave me a great place for authentic paella, one of Spain’s signature dishes.

Not only did she recommend a delicious restaurant, but she called the restaurant and made reservations in Spanish for us under my name! Best friend ever?

This classic seafood and rice dish was MASSIVE and delicious for sure–and chock full of a variety of crustacean friends…that we promptly devoured.
The end is near for our Madrid adventures…but there is one last day to share with a very important event (read: delicious food item that we could not leave without trying). And then we are off to beautiful Barcelona!

AHH I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU! We are going to Madrid together someday. Seriously.
Amazing! I could go for some fresh paella right about now! Maybe I’ll just have to learn how to make it and make it taste as good as when I was in Spain…
wooow….great photos of Madrid!!! So exciting :)
