Welcome to my guilty pleasure.
If there’s one fact about life that I hate, it’s that nuts are so darn snackable and delicious. I literally could eat peanuts, walnuts, pistachios, almonds (especially almonds) forever and consume about 1000 calories in one sitting. Such a love/hate relationship.
Though nuts are pretty calorie dense, they’re full of healthy fats, which totally justifies that spoonful of peanut butter…right? (okay let’s be real. spoonFULLS)
Orrr these addicting candied walnuts.
Maple Cinnamon Candied Walnuts
from Texanerin Baking
1 1/2 cup (225 grams) walnuts
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon canola oil
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Toast the walnuts in a 350° F for 5 to 10 minutes. Keep an eye on the nuts because they have a tendency to burn.
In a large bowl, combine the sugar and salt and set aside.
Combine the maple syrup, water, oil and cinnamon in a medium saucepan over medium high heat. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium, and add the walnuts. Cook until the liquid has evaporated, stirring frequently, which will take about 2-3 minutes.
Remove the pan from the heat and transfer the nuts to the bowl with the sugar. Stir and make sure that they’re well coated. Pour the walnuts onto a Silpat or piece of parchment paper to cool.
These are amazing on their own…but even better combined with some other things that will remain secret for a couple days.
